Kyoto: Part 2/3

Our first 'stop' was at Kenninzi Temple. We hadn't planned to stop here, but it looked pretty cool, so we decided to go in.

While it looked like a temple from the outside, the inside reminded me more of an old-style Japanese home.
Old Japanese-style buildings normally look like this, with buildings, or sections of the house, being connected by these 'bridges.' A lot of them also have these gardens in the middle. It was really pretty.

I was going for a little art with my photos here. In much of Japanese art you'll have the subject being partially obscured by something, and this idea of 'not seeing all of something,' is considered quite pleasing in Japanese art. If you ever see photos of Fuji-san, he'll oftentimes be partially covered with a cherry blossom branch.

We happened to see this woman enjoying the scenary. She looked very pretty in her pink kimono.

She was also very kind to let all of us take a picture with her.

A group photo.

The hallways were also very beautiful.
After this we decided to continue on toward the our destination...
but what's that?!
We suddenly saw a kimono is the distance! Everyone went racing towards her calling "Geisha-san!"

But in actuality, this isn't a Geisha. She's actually a Meiko, which means a Geisha-in-training. You can tell this by her red collar and the long sash that's going down her back. A Geisha would have a white collar and her sash wouldn't go past her waist.

We finally had to stop taking pictures and say goodbye, but I finally felt like I had experienced Kyoto!

Check in next time as we'll be visiting this shrine!
